QUOTES ABOUT THE SHOW
“If radio was always like this, I’d be listening to the radio all the time.”
“No lie. We missed the first 10 minutes or so because nurses were in here. We had been watching Return Of The Jedi but had muted it when they came in. They stepped out for a minute, and I asked Micah which he wanted. You won. When you gave him his call out, they were working on him and he was in a fair bit of pain. I heard the song end, so I turned up the stream and put the phone closer to him and shushed the nurse just in time for him to hear. In spite of the discomfort, he had a big ole smile. Even the nurse was stoked. The only other time he’s smiled was when I gave him a Lego Technics set. He wanted you to know he wants to smile.”
— Brian R, Georgia
“You continue to demonstrate all the appropriate skills & talent.”
— Denny Gibson, Cincinnati OH
“I’m not much of a country fan, but you do an excellent job of providing interesting background on the artists & keeping the flow going smoothly.”
— Sharry Blazier, Elgin IL
“Thanks for playing great music, and keeping me motivated, while I pack up and organize our Holiday decorations. Happy New Year!”
— Jill, Bartlett IL
“Hanging out in snowy Colorado by the fire with my dog enjoying your show in the background!”
— Michelle Wine, Colorado Springs
“One of my favorite country artists … Patsy Cline! My grandma had a little karaoke machine and would always sing Patsy Cline when I was growing up. That song brought back so many good memories, thanks buddy!”
—Ryan Parsons, Allen Park MI
“OMG…I LOVE this Chicago song! Great show tonight!”
—Rowena (Callie), KY
“I LOVE hearing our shout-outs! This song (“Where’ve You Been?”) makes me cry.”
—Joylyn Johnson, Carpentersville IL
“I grew up on radio & disc jockeys … & grew up in Chicago land. Your show really brought me back to that time.”
— Scott W, Michigan
“A song remembers when is a great line & very true. Listening on the app. Good to hear you back on the air.”
— Chip, Michigan

{Hello Elgin & Beyond! WELCOME to a new year of LIVE broadcasts on WRMN, my hometown radio station in Elgin IL, along historic US 20 (spans MA to OR). I am your host, Cort Stevens. Maybe I’m one of the last people to say this to you: Happy New Year 2025! I appreciate you sharing part of your Saturday with me. I hope the songs you hear these next 2 hours spark memories for you … because a song remembers when.
My intent is to provide a radio experience unlike any other, playing a variety of artists & songs. Since Epiphany is this coming Monday, I’ve chosen holiday tunes with the regular mix of songs, country & otherwise, with surprises along the way. I admit … I’m not all that fond of THIS time of year … when all the holiday lights are put away & the cold that is winter in the northern United States feels just a tad bit colder without the warmth of those illuminations. So, I decided 1 more week of mostly holiday fair is in order. Next week, I plan to have my full CD collection in studio once again. I ask you to invite family & friends to join us on this magical drive down memory lane. Post on social media about this radio show … visit & interact on CD SHOWCASE’s Facebook page & group. I’d love to earn new listeners & secure sponsors to continue broadcasting deep into 2025.
Be sure to visit cdshowcase.com.
I appreciate the support of WRMN, the Elgin Area Chamber &, of course, Junkluggers Chicago NW & Remix Market Chicago, located at 425 Airport Rd in Elgin (yes, an airport used to be there). Both are part of national brands, but YOU can utilize Remix Market Chicago wherever you are. Check out their website … remixmarketchicago.com … to see some of the unique items they have for sale, available to be shipped. Do you live in the greater Elgin area? Go visit them in person TOMORROW for their monthly warehouse sale! They are just north of I-90 off IL RT 31.
Also see OC,SH NETWORK members on oldcarsstronghearts.com.
Tonight’s Double Play Of The Day, in the 2nd hour, will feature 1 of the artists I teased last Saturday for this week … Macy Gray … including, of course, a holiday hit.
Now, time to fasten those seatbelts & drive along this magical music journey to spark memories because a song remembers when.}
{With Monday marking Epiphany, we start holiday style. Some of the holiday favorites I chose for tonight are ones that were on my list but didn’t have time to play during the previous 5 Saturdays. That includes THIS song. The artist was born 03/09/1936, Natchez MS, & is a cousin of Jerry Lee Lewis. The 1980 movie ‘Urban Cowboy’ featured a Pasadena TX nightclub he owned at the time….}
1 Mickey Gilley … “Silver Bells”
[segue “dive”]
2 Bee Gees … “Alone” … 1997, peaked at #28 in the United States pop charts
{Have y’all noticed that a lot of my favorites weren’t chart toppers, or even Top 10 tunes? This is 1 of my favorites of this group, along with the well-known “Stayin’ Alive”….}
{Ryan & his fiance, Deanna, are listening in at Deanna’s apartment in Michigan}
{Contact me for DNA gift certificates!}
{So, last week, I featured a number of duets. This next holiday song is a duet I had on my list but didn’t have time to play. The duo, in this case, is Louise Mandrell & RC Bannon. Louise was born … no joke … Thelma Louise Mandrell, 07/13/1954, Corpus Christi TX. A sister of famed country star Barbara Mandrell, Louise only had 4 Top 10 tunes: “Save Me”, “I’m Not Through Loving You Yet”, “Maybe My Baby” & “I Wanna Say Yes”. Her “Some Girls Have All The Luck” (an answer to Rod Stewart’s “Some Guys Have All The Luck”, only reached #22. RC was born Daniel Shipley 05/02/1945, Dallas TX. He & Louise were married 1979-1991. RC’s best-charting song was a duet with his then-wife, Louise, a cover of “Reunited” in 1979, which peaked at #13 on the county charts.}
3 Louise Mandrell & RC Bannon … “Christmas Is Just A Song For Us This Year”
[segue “WRMN’s Mark B”]

[segue “Route 66”]
6 New Radicals … “Someday We’ll Know”
{When’s the last time you heard that song on the radio!?}

{Michael Hayes is tuned in from NM & says his Dad loved Bobby Bare & that he hasn’t heard that song in a long time. That’s the point of this show … sparking memories because a song remembers when.}

{Another of my favorites! When’s the last time you heard it on the radio?}

I aim to produce a radio experience unlike any other, playing a variety of artists & songs with surprises along the way. I’ve yet to secure more sponsors, so I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be on the air. Because of that, I’m shaking things up a bit.

2nd, I’m suspending the Double Play Of The Day. I’d much prefer to ensure more artists get featured, particularly those you don’t hear on the radio much anymore, if at all.

{Just received this text from Brian, & I had to share it with y’all. He writes:
No lie. They missed the 1st 10 minutes or so because nurses were in there. They’d been watching ‘Return Of the Jedi’ but had muted it when the nurses came in. When they stepped out for a minute, Brian asked Micah which he wanted. You won, meaning CD SHOWCASE. Brian adds: “When you gave him his call out, they were working on him and he was in a fair bit of pain.” Brian heard the song end, turned up the stream & put the phone closer to Micah and shushed the nurses just in time for him to hear. In spite of the discomfort, Micah had a big smile. Even the nurses were stoked. I’m told the only other time Micah has smiled was when Brian gave him a Lego Technics set. Powerful stuff. The power of the radio. Here’s hoping you are feeling better & home very soon, Micah!}
